Discounts for carers in Luton

We’ve compiled all the great price discounts available for carers in Luton including venues, activities, transport and more…

Free cinema entry

If the person you care for is receiving either Attendance Allowance, Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independence Payment, Armed Forces Independence Payment, or is a registered blind person, they can apply for a card which allows their carer to come with them, free of charge, to participating cinemas. Apply online at the Cinema Exhibitors’ Association.

Free football entry

Luton Town Football Club offers free tickets to carers when accompanying a disabled person. Call them in advance on 01582 416976.

Free theatre entry

The Library Theatre (01582 547474) and the Hat Factory (01582 878100) both provide free tickets to carers if accompanying a disabled person. Please phone them in advance to check if they have available spaces for wheelchairs.

Free recreation centre and swimming pool entry

Active Luton operates eight sports and leisure centres, with facilities that include swimming and golf. Carers of disabled people can get free entry to any of their centres when they accompany the person they care for. You will need to register at one of their centres to get your Active Luton Carer’s Card, which you can do when you arrive. Follow this link to find a centre near you.

Trains

If you travel by train, you may also qualify for a Disabled Person’s Railcard, which entitles you and an accompanying adult to one-third off the price of a rail ticket.

Read about transport discounts for carers on the Turn2Us website.

Car: Road tax exemption

If you are a disabled driver, you may get an exemption from paying Road Tax. See the page: Financial help if you’re disabled: Vehicles and transport on the GOV.UK website for more information about this and how to apply.

Carers on public transport

Carers can sometimes get travel concessions to accompany a person with disabilities on public transport. For example, if the person has a Disabled Person’s Railcard, this qualifies you to a discount when you travel with them by train.

National schemes

CEA Card

The CEA Card is a national card scheme developed for UK cinemas by the UK Cinema Association (UKCA).

The Card enables a disabled cinema guest to receive a complimentary ticket for someone to go with them when they visit a participating cinema.

The Card is also one way for cinemas to make sure they look after their disabled guests. If you require an adjustment to visit a cinema because of your disability, cinema staff should make them for you whether you have a CEA Card or not.

The Card is developed by UKCA’s Disability Working Group, whose members include film exhibitors and distributors, and national disability charities such as RNID, RNIB, Dimensions and Whizz Kidz.

If you have questions about the card and how it works read the Frequently Asked Questions and see full Terms and Conditions.

Discounts at theatres

The Society of London Theatre run a number of different access schemes for audience members with disabilities. Some theatres allow a carer to see the performance for free. Shows often hold special matinees or performances for people with learning disabilities, as well as specific audio described performances, often at a discounted rate. See the Access section of SOLT’s website to download the up to date information.

Historic buildings and gardens

The National Trust lets you bring 1 or 2 carers or companions for free. You can ask for free carer entry on the day or get an Essential Companion card. The companion card can help if you feel anxious about asking or prefer not to ask when you arrive. You just show the card to reception staff and your companion or PA will get free entry straight away. You’ll still need to pay for your own entry if you’re not a member.
